The Breakdownĩ Stars: Thoroughly fascinating, highly meaningful, and visually and sonically beautiful.ġ0 Stars: Masterly crafted very little, if anything, is lacking. With more than 208 Fawn Creek vacation rentals, we can help you find a place to stay. Simply put, I am definitely rewatching the works in this category, multiple times, and I’m going to buy the Blu-Rays for them if I don’t already have them. The 9 and 10-star movies/series don’t just captivate me with their masterful cinematic artistry and wonderfully ambitious storylines, they strike something spiritual in me. I just know that some works of art stand out significantly more than the rest in my mind. How can I confidently assess which movie or series is the best when I still have so much to learn about film critique? Hell, even within the confines of my subjective rating scale it’s still controversial. The discussion around the “best” of anything is always gonna be controversial. Hold tight to your grappling hooks and breathe slowly - the air is thin up here. 9 to 10 Stars (Masterclass) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Īlright, we’ve reached the pinnacle of the rating scale. I’m considering upgrading this movie to a 9, but I need to see it again to be sure. Every shot feels carefully constructed, the cast is phenomenal, and the plot dances masterfully between absurd and relatable. What a truly unique movie this is: an interconnected anthology of bizarre stories that is as accessible as it is lofty in its art-house aesthetic. The Breakdownħ Stars: A really good movie worthy of recommendation, further analysis, and another watch.Ĩ Stars: So highly enjoyable and thought-provoking that I feel comfortable calling this film or series “one of my favorites”. To receive a rating of 7 or higher, the story must be significantly meaningful - cinematic prowess alone isn’t gonna cut it. These aren’t the best works, but at least I wasn’t distracted by egregious flaws on the first watch. It’s worthy of discussion, analysis, and critique. If I give a movie or series this rating, then I’m almost certainly rewatching it and recommending it to a friend. As you’ll see, a good story is essential for the upper tiers of my rating scale. It was definitely a good movie - top-notch cast, nostalgia vibes, visually stunning action - but I did not buy into the villains’ motivations whatsoever. My rating of 6 for this movie is proof that widely-loved blockbusters receive no special treatment from me. 3-Star Movie Example (Escape Room: Tournament of Champions) This should not have been made.Ģ Stars: A thoroughly unenjoyable and unmeaningful experience.ģ Stars: It whiplashed between tolerable and terrible. I don’t think I could fairly give a series this rating because I wouldn’t make it through more than a couple of episodes. Like, I’m fine losing the money for the ticket, I just wish I could have spent the time differently. These movies are the kind that after seeing them in theaters I sigh and low-key wish I could have those 2 hours of my life back. (By the way, the examples I give will all be from the last couple of years, to show how the scale can be applied to works whose reputation hasn’t been biased by many years of acclaim or critique.) 1 to 3 Stars (Bad) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Now that you have some understanding of what motivates my rating scale, let’s dive in!
